Popular sports teams in Alberta

Alberta is home to several popular hockey and football teams. The Edmonton Oilers play in the NHL and enjoyed one of the most successful dynasties in the league’s history, winning five Stanley Cups between 1984 and 1990. Their rivals include the Calgary Flames, who were one of only two teams to interrupt that winning streak by winning the Stanley Cup in 1989.

Similarly, the Edmonton Elks are the second most successful team in CFL history with 14 Grey Cups, including five straight from 1978 to 1982. However, it was the Calgary Stampeders who celebrated more recent success, by winning their eighth Grey Cup in 2018.
