All sportsbooks in Ontario for 2023

Single-game online sports betting is legal in Ontario to all residents aged 19 years or older, but there are currently no in-person retail locations available.

Several major sportsbooks are now licensed to operate in the province by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). It is widely expected that more will join them as the relevant authorities have been open about attempting to create a competitive marketplace for many sportsbooks to operate in. Winnings on sports betting are not taxed in Ontario.

Signing up to a sportsbook in Ontario is quick and easy. Simply follow the four steps below and you'll be ready to place your first bet:

   Select your sportsbook: The Ontario market is growing, with a host of big-name, reputable sportsbooks now offering sports betting in the province. Choose the site that's right for you, then head to their sign-up page. Not sure how to choose? Our sportsbook reviews are here to help.

   Add your information: As part of this, you may be required to provide additional documentation for the following: Proof of name and age (personal ID, driving license, passport); Proof of address (personal ID, financial statement, bill).

   Make sure you're local: Sportsbooks in Ontario will often require you to verify that you are physically located in the province before they will create a betting account. This verification could come via your mobile phone or your IP address.

   Deposit funds: Finally, you will need to set up your preferred payment method and deposit funds to your account. Select the payment method that's right for you, and follow the prompts to get set up, then deposit funds into your new account. Once you've done that, you're ready to go.

If your bets have come in and you have winnings in your account, you can then withdraw the funds via your preferred payment method.

To withdraw money from your betting account, head to the sportsbook’s cashier/account section and follow the instructions to place a withdrawal request. If you’re withdrawing from your account for the first time, you may be required to complete additional steps and verification checks to set up the payment method for your account.

Ontario is home to several notable sports teams that are all popular within the province. These include Canada’s only NBA team, the Toronto Raptors, who won the NBA Championship in 2019 and have claimed six division titles since 2014. Elsewhere, Ontario can boast Canada’s only MLB franchise, the Toronto Blue Jays, who won back-to-back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993.

The NHL has also crowned champions from Ontario courtesy of the Toronto Maple Leafs. They have picked up a total of 13 Stanley Cups, although the most recent of these came in 1967. The Ottawa Senators also represent Ontario in the NHL, and were Stanley Cup runners-up in 2007.

There are also three CFL teams based in Ontario – the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Ottawa Redblacks, and Toronto Argonauts. The Argonauts are the most successful team in CFL history, with an impressive 17 Grey Cups to their name from 23 championship game appearances. Lastly, Toronto FC are one of several Canadian teams that play in the MLS.
