How to bet in Ontario

Single-game online sports betting is legal in Ontario to all residents aged 19 years or older, but there are currently no in-person retail locations available.

Several major sportsbooks are now licensed to operate in the province by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). It is widely expected that more will join them as the relevant authorities have been open about attempting to create a competitive marketplace for many sportsbooks to operate in. Winnings on sports betting are not taxed in Ontario.

How to sign up for a betting account in Ontario

Signing up to a sportsbook in Ontario is quick and easy. Simply follow the four steps below and you'll be ready to place your first bet:

  2. Add your information: As part of this, you may be required to provide additional documentation for the following: Proof of name and age (personal ID, driving license, passport); Proof of address (personal ID, financial statement, bill).

  3. Make sure you're local: Sportsbooks in Ontario will often require you to verify that you are physically located in the province before they will create a betting account. This verification could come via your mobile phone or your IP address.

How to withdraw winnings from a betting account

Popular sports teams in Ontario

Ontario is home to several notable sports teams that are all popular within the province. These include Canada’s only NBA team, the Toronto Raptors, who won the NBA Championship in 2019 and have claimed six division titles since 2014.
