The PGA Championship is one of four majors on the PGA TOUR, which means it drives heavy betting traffic to the tournament each year. It is the second major on the schedule following the Masters, and will be played next at the Oak Hill Country Club in New York, US, from May 18 to 21, 2023. It has been held, with some exceptions, in each year since 1916, and awards winners the Wanamaker Trophy.
Unlike the Masters, it is played on various courses each year. As it is a major, it features the best players around the world, with the total purse reaching $15 million in 2022. The winner of the tournament receives a lifetime invitation to participate in all future PGA Championships, five-year allowances for participation in the three other majors, and points toward the PGA Player of the Year award and next Ryder Cup team.
The odds for the PGA Championship are often released months ahead of time, which allows for significant movement based on a golfer’s form and how they are playing in the tournaments leading up to the PGA Championship.
The main ways for golfers to qualify for the event is to have won a PGA Championship, won a major in the last five years, won a Players Championship in the last three years, be in the top 15 of the last PGA Championship, or receive a special invitation. Similarly to the other majors, the field consists of the best of the best, and therefore presents itself with exciting opportunities for bettors.
