What are UFC stats?

The UFC tracks a plethora of fight and fighter stats, which are featured and discussed as part of fight night coverage to give bettors useful information for each UFC bout. These stats can also provide additional insight when comparing the abilities and strengths of fighters, ahead of placing a UFC wager.

Here are the different stats recorded by the UFC:

UFC striking stats
  • Significant strikes attempted and landed: Strikes with impact that a fighter either lands or attempts to land on their opponent during a bout.

  • Total strikes attempted and landed: Strikes of all kinds that a fighter either lands or attempts to land on their opponent during a bout.

  • Strikes absorbed: How many strikes a fighter received from their opponent in a fight.

  • Striking differential: The difference between how many strikes a fighter landed on their opponent against how many they absorbed from them in a bout.

Stats are also kept for more specific striking targets, with stats for distance strikes, clinch strikes, ground strikes, head strikes, body strikes, and leg kicks.

UFC wrestling and grappling stats
  • Takedowns attempted and landed: Instances of a fighter tackling, dragging, throwing, or tripping their opponent to the canvas during a bout (or attempting to do so).

  • Takedown accuracy: The percentage of a fighter’s takedowns that were successful. This stat usually requires a minimum of 10 takedown attempts.

  • Submission attempts: How many times a fighter attempted to get their opponent to submit during a bout.

UFC fastest and latest stats
  • Fastest and latest KO/TKO: The quickest and latest time in a bout that a fighter has recorded a knockout (KO) or technical knockout (TKO).

  • Fastest and latest submission: The quickest and latest time in a bout that a fighter has recorded a submission.

  • Fastest and latest finish: The quickest and latest time in a bout that a fighter has recorded a finish.

UFC stat leaders

UFC stat leaders refer to the fighters that sit at the top of the standings for different statistical categories. Fight stats track everything from both an offensive and defensive perspective, and provide additional context to a fighter’s win-loss record and recent form.

The two main stat categories deal with all-time stats and active streaks. The former shows the cumulative record for a given metric across a fighter’s whole career, but the latter (such as active win streaks) provide more relevant and up-to-date data that can inform bets.
